Clutch Replacement Cost Brisbane — Real Pricing by Vehicle
Clutch replacement cost in Brisbane varies widely depending on your vehicle. Ultimate Car Expert publishes real pricing ranges so you can budget before you book — not vague “from $X” numbers that bear no resemblance to the final invoice.
Clutch replacement pricing by vehicle type
- Standard passenger car, small SUV (older Corolla, Civic, Mazda3). From $1,249 fitted. Full clutch kit (pressure plate, friction disc, release bearing), spigot bush, hydraulic fluid refill.
- Mid-size sedan, mid-size SUV (Camry, Accord, Tucson). From $1,449 fitted.
- 4WD and dual-cab utes (Hilux, Ranger, Navara). From $1,649 fitted. Heavier clutches and more labour to drop the gearbox.
- European and prestige (BMW, Audi, Mercedes manual models). From $1,849 fitted. OEM parts, more complex removal.
- Dual-mass flywheel replacement if required. Add $450 to $950 on top of the clutch. Common on diesel utes, European cars, and some performance vehicles.
- Clutch hydraulics alone (master or slave cylinder). $289 to $689. Sometimes the fix when the clutch itself is fine.
The dual-mass flywheel question
Dual-mass flywheels are common on diesel utes and European cars. They reduce drivetrain vibration but wear out, rattle, and cause clutch judder when failing.
The trap: replace the clutch without checking the DMF. Six months later the DMF fails, destroys the new clutch, and you do the whole job again.
Our diagnosis includes checking DMF for play and rattle. If it’s worn, we recommend replacement with the clutch. Doubles the parts cost but saves doing the whole job twice.
What's in a proper clutch job
- New pressure plate
- New friction disc
- New release bearing
- Spigot bush or pilot bearing
- Flywheel machining if lightly scored, replacement if badly damaged
- Hydraulic fluid top-up or bleed
- Gear oil refill (if drained for removal)
- Road test to verify bite point
A cheap clutch kit from an online store can be half the price of quality brands, but they fail within 12 months. We use Exedy, Sachs, LUK or OEM.
When it's hydraulics, not the clutch
A lot of “my clutch is failing” complaints are actually hydraulic problems:
- Clutch pedal sinks to floor: master cylinder leaking internally.
- Clutch pedal spongy: air in hydraulics or failing cylinder.
- Clutch won’t release: slave cylinder failure.
Full diagnosis before any clutch recommendation. If it’s hydraulics, the repair is 20 percent of a full clutch job.
Labour time
Most clutch replacements are a single-day job. Drop off morning, collect afternoon. European cars and some 4WDs occasionally run into a second day.
Signs your clutch is failing
- Slipping on acceleration up hills
- Clutch judder from standstill
- Burning smell after heavy traffic
- Bite point very high on pedal travel
- Noise that changes when pedal is pressed

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a clutch replacement take?
Most jobs one day. Drop off morning, collect afternoon.
Do you warrant clutch work?
Yes. 12 months or 20,000 km on the work.
What brand of clutch do you fit?
Exedy, Sachs, LUK, or OEM. We don’t fit cheap online kits.
Why does a dual-mass flywheel cost so much?
The part itself is expensive (engineering complexity with internal springs). Worth it when failed; unnecessary when still good. We advise case-by-case.
Can I drive with a slipping clutch?
Short distances yes, but every km adds damage. Book in this week.
