Log Book Service

What a $149 oil change actually includes
Oil. Filter. Labour. That’s it. It’s a standard interval service for cars that don’t need the full inspection work yet. The oil we use is a quality semi-synthetic in the correct viscosity for your engine (5W-30, 0W-20, 10W-40 — we check your owner’s manual).
What’s NOT in the $149 service: fluid top-ups, filter changes, brake inspection, cabin filter. If you want those, go with the Premium Service at $330. We don’t sneak add-ons onto the oil change price.
What a $330 Premium Service actually includes
Every item listed above. A physical inspection of the car on a hoist, not just a visual in the car park. A written report you can read (not a generic checklist). A phone call if we find something that needs urgent attention before we charge you for work not on the quote.
The pricing assumes a standard passenger car up to 4.5 tonnes with a petrol engine and up to 5 litres of oil. Diesels, large 4WDs with 7+ litres of oil, and European cars with specialised oil specs cost more — we quote when you book if your vehicle doesn’t fit the standard.
Service intervals — what the manual actually says
Most modern cars have two schedules: time-based and distance-based. Whichever comes first is when you service.
- Toyota: Every 6 months or 10,000 km. Hilux, Corolla, Camry, RAV4, Prado, Landcruiser all follow this.
- Mazda: Every 12 months or 10,000 km for most models.
- Hyundai / Kia: Every 12 months or 15,000 km.
- Ford / Holden: Every 12 months or 15,000 km.
- BMW / Audi / Mercedes-Benz: Every 12 months or 15,000 to 25,000 km depending on model and oil specification. These are long-interval cars that need the right oil — we follow the exact spec.
- Diesel utes and 4WDs: Every 10,000 km regardless of time. Diesels need oil changes more frequently because of soot loading.
If you drive mostly short trips (under 15 minutes, typical school-run pattern), consider servicing at the distance interval even if you haven’t hit the kilometres. Short trips don’t let the oil reach operating temperature, and moisture contaminates the oil faster.
What we will NOT upsell
Every workshop has a reputation for selling things people don’t need. We don’t do that. Specifically:
- We will not replace spark plugs “because they’re due” when they test fine: We check them, clean them if they’re carbon-fouled, and replace them when they actually need it. Iridium plugs last 100,000 km in most cars.
- We will not flush the transmission on a car with high kilometres: Flushing a tired transmission can push debris into the valve body and cause failure. On high-km automatics, we drain and refill (safe) rather than flush (risky).
- We will not change the air filter every service: Paper air filters usually last 20,000 to 40,000 km. We show you the old one. If it’s clean, we put it back.
- We will not “service” your brake fluid every year: Brake fluid change is a legitimate item every 2 to 3 years. Every year is overservicing.
Servicing does not void your warranty
A common myth. Australian Consumer Law protects your right to service your car at any qualified independent workshop, provided the servicing meets the manufacturer’s schedule and uses fit-for-purpose parts. Dealers cannot legally refuse warranty on a vehicle serviced by a Repco Authorised Service Centre following the manufacturer’s schedule. We stamp your log book accordingly.
The ACCC has published multiple guidance papers on this. If a dealer tells you otherwise, they are misrepresenting the law.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a service take?
$149 oil change: 45 minutes. Premium service: 2 to 3 hours. Major service: half a day.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. Same-day bookings are possible if there’s a slot, but a week’s notice is normal for a premium service.
What if you find something wrong during the service?
We call you with the problem and a quote before we do any work outside the booked scope. You approve or decline.
Do you use genuine parts or aftermarket?
For log book servicing on cars under warranty, fit-for-purpose (OEM quality or better). For out-of-warranty cars, we use quality aftermarket parts (cheaper) or OEM (your choice). We tell you which and why.
Can I bring my own oil and filter?
We prefer not — we warrant the labour, and we can’t guarantee work done with parts we haven’t tested. If you insist, we can discuss it, but most customers find our parts pricing fair.
